Accreditation

Cahercalla Community Hospital and Hospice achieved full accreditation status with CHKS in December 2009. This accreditation affirms that all departments within Cahercalla Community Hospital; Nursing Home, Hospice and Surgical Day Unit, have demonstrated the highest standards of organisational management and service delivery. Cahercalla is the first Nursing Home to achieve CHKS accreditation in Ireland.

A team of three surveyors came onsite for a full week of inspections and interviews in early 2009. Full compliance with Health Accreditation and Quality Unit standards is required in order to achieve CHKS Accreditation, if any partial or non conformances are identified during survey, they have to be fully addressed before Accreditation is granted.

In particular the Accreditation Programme focuses on aspects such as patient safety, the patient’s experience of care, the expertise of staff working within the hospital, patient and public involvement and effective clinical governance and leadership. The philosophy that influences our work is set out in our Mission, Vision and Value statement ‘we are committed to continuous quality improvement by continually enhancing the extent, quality and range of patient care services’.

Cahercalla Community Hospital continues to be regulated by HIQA, achieving accreditation with CHKS re-inforces our commitment to delivering high quality, safe patient care.

The achievement of Accreditation was celebrated on the 19th of March 2010, with Jon Kenny, comedian, unveiling the accreditation plaque.  Staff, residents, relatives and invited guests enjoyed a lovely afternoon with a fantastic buffet provided  by our catering department.  Jon Kenny visited many residents and has promised to come back later in the year to put on a concert for our residents.
